Much of the day was spent in the heat. For one, February is not a kind month in Kerala where the sun gets a special glory during the Malayalam Kumbham month. Two, the venue of official assignment was in the midst of a fiery ritual: Somayagam.
I had just returned to my hotel in Kozhikode after covering for the media the (penultimate) day’s special Vedic rituals that were to span a week in total at suburban Karapparambu. As pre-arranged, a couple of my old-time friends joined me in the room. Ramesh and Nawaz are both from North Malabar. The city we had last met was Delhi, where I live to earn a living and they had come (separately) on a stopover during their return from a tour to the Himalayas. Continue reading
